Completed Works: Canterbury Mills Primary School

DES have newly completed works at Canterbury Mills Primary School, Croydon.

At DES we have established a reputation for providing early stage M&E design and expertise to help clients produce cost effective build solutions, delivering added value for the client. This ethos were applied to Canterbury Mills School.

DES were involved early stages on the project, offering our vast knowledge within the education sector. Our in-house design team completed the design from stage 4A to construction in BIM Level 2 Design. This enabled us to progress the design to host the features to what the school requires.

The school is unique to the client due to their criteria to have special break out areas for children. The school also promotes a new way of learning for the children so they can interact together.

DES installed the electrical installations within the new three storey building and external works with a linked dining hall for the provision of an open plan 2FE school for 420 pupils. The school consists of a teaching block with a roof terrace hard play area and plant room, 14 classrooms and 1 practical room administration offices and associated ancillary spaces.

The development of the school was completed in two phases. The first phase was to construct a new temporary school on the existing MUGA pitches to the rear of the site.  This was completed ready for pupils starting in September 2016.  The second phase included the demolition of the existing Canterbury Mills industrial building and construction and completion of the new primary school.

The school is now ready for the new school term in September 2018.
