DES worked with Willmott Dixon Construction on the Kingston University Town House project which has been shortlisted for the Project of the Year award at the Building Awards 2020.
The £50M teaching building for Kingston University was designed as an innovative learning centre for the University promoting a cultural and educational hub for students, staff, alumni, and the local community.
From early engagement of working with RIBA Gold-award-winning Grafton Architects, DES developed the design of the University to bring their vision to be a landmark building on the Penrhyn Road campus with requirement for energy-efficiency.
The project was modelled to BIM Level 2 protocols and with sustainability at the heart of the design, the Town House is rated as BREEAM Official Excellent. This is because of its sustainability features such as:
- Photovoltaic Array
- Large Sustainable Urban Drainage System
- Thermally Active Building System
- Underfloor Cooling
- Two Roof Gardens
The project has been recognised by being among the finalists for the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) annual awards for the London region and is shortlisted in the New London Awards 2020, in association with the Mayor of London.
