Wilmott Dixon has selected DES to deliver the electrical installation within a pioneering green leisure complex in Staines-on-Thames.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre aims to be one of the world's most advanced energy-efficient leisure facilities. It will be the first wet and dry leisure centre to achieve the Passivhaus standard in Greater London and will be designed to consume up to 60% less energy compared with a standard new building, optimising natural daylight, and integrating solar photovoltaic panels to generate energy from renewable sources.

The project will utilise DES’s previous Passivhaus expertise, which has seen the company deliver the UK’s first “Passivhaus Plus” primary school, Hackbridge Primary School, and the UK’s largest Passivhaus secondary school, Harris Academy, both in Sutton.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre will have an eight-lane 25-metre main pool, learner pool, splash pad and spa, as well as a six-court sports hall, three squash courts, 950sqm of fitness space, two studios, one spin studio and a multi-use room. There will also be an open-plan café, reception space, and a roof terrace overlooking four small-sided 3G football pitches.

The scheme will be the first in the UK designed and built to fully meet the ultra-low energy Passivhaus standard of environmental sustainability.

DES has completed the design which is coordinated in Revit – BIM level 2 and installation works commence in May 2023.
